“One of the things that I cherish is being able to connect with people. A meaningful life is built on human connection, achieved by approaching each person I meet with care and concern, seeking to understand their story and offering support.”
Shirra has been a volunteer with the American Red Cross, the Trident United Way 2-1-1 Hotline, and Tri-County S.P.E.A.K.S. Sexual Assault Center (formerly People Against Rape), and was a member of the Navy Reserve Law Program’s Inclusion and Diversity Standard Advisory Council. Shirra’s genuine passion for helping others is not a passive sentiment, but an active principle that has guided her educational and vocational journey!
Shirra holds dual master’s degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Forensic Legal Psychology from Marymount University. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Legal Studies from Roger Williams University and a Master of Science in Communications with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism and Multi-media studies from Quinnipiac University.
Shirra is a veteran and a member of the naval reserves. As Shirra embarks on her journey in counseling, she is open to exploring a diverse range of techniques and modalities that best serve her clients and provide a rich experience. Her focus is not just on helping, but also on understanding individual needs and motivations through a person-centered approach that extends to her interactions with people, where she prioritizes empathetic listening and validation over quick fixes. Shirra says, “The most effective help is tailored to the individual, and I am committed to providing genuine, attentive care.” Shirra is under the supervision of Michelle Kauble M.S. LPC.
